Veggie Tales on NBC

I just heard about NBC adding the Veggie Tales cartoons to their Saturday morning cartoon lineup. Evidently the caveat from NBC was that they had to take out any references to God. I’m not sure how you would get more than 5 minutes of non-God content out of Veggie Tales but who knows. Here’s the money quote:

Veggie Tales Censored
“Melissa Caldwell with the Parents Television Council thinks the new programming is positive, but shows a double standard on the part of NBC.

’For example, going to court to fight for the right to use the F-word on broadcast TV in front of millions of children, but at the same time they’re worried about offending viewers by having references to God or to the Bible.’”

I guess I really don’t have any opinion on the whole issue one way or another. While it’s obviously a ridiculous double-standard for NBC to filter out any mention of God, which a good 70% of their viewership believes in, it’s also their prerogative to do so if they decide to. In the end, it’s probably a good thing that NBC is airing it no matter what. If kids like it, their parents will buy the DVD’s, and those are not filtered. It’s a great show, and evidently it’s ratings have gone up steadily each week since it debuted. Keep it up guys.
