I prettified the buttons to make it look a little spiffier and squashed a big bug in the code that allows you to change the download directory for a certain feed. It’s getting insanely big though. 96KB is just total bloat-ware. The next release will fix some of those glaring holes in the UI like being able to cancel an in-progress download. Use the “Check for updates” as always to update automatically.

I finally got around to cleaning up the source code and putting in safe string handling so I feel comfortable releasing it now. I squashed a long standing bug with the progress bar that generally made it look like crap on some systems. Pcast file support is a lot smoother now also. When you open a pcast file it will now add the feed and trigger the existing process to check for updates. Previously it just added the feed.

Another day, another PodWrangler version. I added some rudimentary soft-404 checking this time around. I don’t know how common this is but I am plagued by it with podcasts from Oneplace.com. People need to realize that you can’t update an RSS feed without having the content it refers to already in place. That means your just publishing a broken link.

Anyway, I also fixed a few more bugs and made some changes to some of the informational message boxes. I also got the file size down to 84KB by reworking the GDI in the toaster popup boxes in the same way as the main windows. Enjoy!

I uploaded a new version of PodWrangler today. New features include:

“.pcast” file support. To enable this after an auto-upgrade just
click on the “Autostart with Windows” option.

Better handling for feed URL changes that don’t use http redirects.
It won’t just error out with no explanation anymore.

Other than that, their were quite a few bug fixes and a major change
to the way the GDI is handled. You will notice that the file size for
the new version dropped from 1.1 MB down to 232 KB by going to a more
intelligent way of handling the graphics part rather than just sticking
a huge bitmap in the resource file and making it the background brush
for the whole class. Big thanks go out to JimmyClif on the asm community forums for figuring
it all out. I’m terrible at GDI and would still be pulling my hair out
if not for his help. To get the new version just use the “Check for
Upgrades” feature or download it straight up.

Here’s a link to
the thread where we discussed the GDI stuff if anyone would like to
peruse it.

Added a few new features and remedied a buffer overflow crash in the install function. Here is the list of changes:

Added the ability to put a “filter” on each feed. Some podcast feeds have .txt articles and .mp3 files in them so this will let you filter out any stuff you don’t want. For right now it’s just a simple text string search. For example, if you put just “.mp3″ in the filter
it will only download mp3’s. No wildcards or anything are allowed. Later I’ll put regex support in.

Modified the user interface and took away all the prompting for stuff when you add a feed. It now just goes straight in the feed list and you can modify download dir. and filter’s later.

Finally fixed the icon problem for 16-bit that has plagued me for 5 versions.

The next version will support .pcast files like iTunes uses.
