Innermission – Fields

We were cleaning out our CD collection the other day and I ran across some CD’s from the old band that I used to play drums for. Our name was “Innermission” and the album was called Fields. The band went through a few incarnations before we got to the point of making Fields. The first incarnation was with three of my friends, Steve(Guitar/Vocals), Tim(Bass, Harmony) and John(Drums). They called themselves “Blood, Water and Spirit”. They made an album back in the early nineties. Later on I joined up with them and started playing guitar around ’94. I don’t know if we really had a name then or not but Steve continued to write music and we played shows every now and then.

At some point another guy, Brad, joined up with us to play percussion and we were sporting 5 band members. Shortly after that, Tim moved from playing bass to playing rythm guitar, Steve’s brother David started playing bass and Brad left after a few shows and joined another band I think. After a couple of years John(the drummer) left the band and moved out of state. It turned out that I had just bought a drum set from a friend of mine, David Lynam, and had been playing for a couple of months. So needless to say, I became the defacto drummer. Shew! I told you we went through a few changes.

Anyway, after I became the drummer we stayed that with that lineup for a few years. We played shows every couple of months and eventually saved up enough money to record an album. Fields was the result. I was really happy with what we recorded but we were never happy with the sound. It always sounded weak. I don’t think any compression was used when it was mastered, so it sounded great in the studio monitors but terrible in your CD player. We were very disappointed. So when I found it and was listening to it the other day, the idea struck me that I could do some mastering on the PC and try to correct some of the flaws. I knew I would never be able to fix it all without the ADAT master, but I was pretty sure I could give it back some punch.

It ended up working good and I’m pretty happy with the sound. I’m going to post each of the tracks from the CD here as I get them done along with the lyrics. We were a Christian band and I think the lyrics are very powerful. So with all that said, here is the first track, newly remastered. It’s called “The Prayer” and it’s an instrumental so no lyrics this time. Enjoy!
