Springfield XD Service Model

I’m starting to think that every gun review is positive. I can’t
remember ever reading a review of a handgun that concludes that the gun
is crap. I don’t know if it’s because the reviewers don’t want to risk
making the manufacturer angry or if I just choose bad reviewers to
read. I have noticed though that while not critical of the gun being
reviewed, authors often criticize other guns in the same class as the
model being reviewed. I have started trying to track down this sort of
second hand honesty when looking for info on a selected model.

The model I have been looking at lately is the href="http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-xdpstl.shtml">Springfield
XD series. They make a Service model 4″, a sub-compact 3″ and a
Tactical 5″ in 9mm, .357 SIG, .40 and .45 ACP. I haven’t found any
negative comments about the gun even in competing reviews so it must be
pretty good. It’s most closely compared to a href="http://www.glock.com/">Glock. I am really thinking about
selling my href="http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=6648&return=Y">Ruger
P345 .45 ACP and buying an XD but I’m going to wait and shoot a
couple of Glocks before I decide for sure. I would like something in a
.40 caliber, though my friend tells me the Glock 21 .45 is a breeze to
shoot. The Ruger is just too much of a beast for me to handle. Maybe
I’m just a wimp.

This is the XD .45 Service model:
