I just finished listening to John Denson’s interview on the Lew Rockwell show. He discusses the 5 books he read over the summer. You should really, really listen to this. John Denson, in my opinion, is one of the most solid revisionist war historians there is. I have immense respect for him. Plus, that old south accent just makes for some easy listening.
Here’s the interview:
John Denson: Five Revisionist Books on War:
Here are links to the books he speaks about:
- The War Lovers: Roosevelt, Lodge, Hearst, and the Rush to Empire, 1898 – Evan Thomas
- To End All Wars: A Story of Loyalty and Rebellion, 1914-1918 – Adam Hochschild
- A Peace to End All Peace: The Fall of the Ottoman Empire and the Creation of the Modern Middle East – David Fromkin
- The Betrayal of the American Right – Murray Rothbard
- Extreme Prejudice: The Terrifying story of the patriot act and the cover-ups of 9/11 and Iraq – Susan Lindauer
- Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman – Jon Krakauer
And, don’t forget John’s excellent book, A Century of War. If you are truly open to the possibility of having your mind changed about American war history, you must read this book. Even if you ultimately don’t agree with his conclusions, you will be a more well informed historian for reading it.

Agree on all counts. This is one of my favorite Rockwell podcasts, and I bought several of the books he discusses because of it. Listening to Mr. Denson is like climbing to the top of a mountain and thinking, “Hey, now I see. Now I understand.” Excellent stuff.
