God is not his People
Maybe this is insensetive, but it’s true. God is not his people. Christian people do stupid things. We sin. We disobey his commands intentionally and unintentionally. We misunderstand the bible. We speak to people wrongly. We’re rude. And on and on and on…
The reason I bring all of that up is because I hear so many people these days acting as if “church-going” people misbehaving is a good excuse for disavowing oneself of religion. I had a friend once who’s sister vowed never to return to church because her mother’s pastor told her that it was her fault that she had a miscarriage because she hadn’t been going to church. Now, what that pastor said was so blatantly a load of crap that it actually makes her look silly for acting like the guy spoke for the church in some way. The pastor’s words weren’t a load of crap because they were wrong (nobody can ever know if they were or not), but because he acted like he knew what God does and why. Nobody knows what God does apart from what he has told us in the scriptures. He should have kept his mouth shut, and she should have known better.
