Getting a Kindle for Christmas? Here’s a reading list.

With Kindle’s being so cheap now, there’s going to be a ton of them sold to first-time users this Christmas. Here’s my suggested reading list to get you started with your new device. The only problem I ran into is that there are so many great books that aren’t available on Kindle yet. Especially books by Robert Higgs, James Chodes and the older Cato works.

I run into this all the time. The overall paradigm that you come from will influence what you mean by certain words and phrases. The problem is that explaining paradigm requires starting at the very beginning each time and that’s not easy to do. Anyway, just thought that was a very nicely worded way to put it.

I haven’t been posting here as much because I’m playing with a new blog platform called Scripting2. You can check it out at: http://blog.southernbread.org. I don’t know that I’ll stick with it forever, but so far I’m really liking it. It’s easy enough that I can post in more of a microblog style more frequently. It all flows to twitter so you could also just follow me on twitter(@southern__bread) and get the same content. I’ll still post updates here from time to time, but I’m concentrating on that for now to see if I want to make the switch.

China’s “Ghost Cities”

In May of last year I wrote a blog post titled “Don’t Worry About China.” My theory was that, based on the history of how the media spins things, China’s economic situation is probably far worse than we realize. Remember that in Russia’s hey day the media touted them as an unstoppable economic force. Same with Japan in the 80′s. It’s not until the inevitable collapse that you see it was smoke and mirrors.

And now we have China. The latest command economy to waste vast amounts of resources. Just like the Soviets built train stations in the middle of nowhere with no tracks running to them, so does China build vast cities with nobody living in them. Watch and awe:
